Well, we've gotten a bit of nutrition in! I got up every hour and gave him a 60 cc syringe of Ensure. Any more than that was making him nauseated, since it's been so long since he's really eaten. The pain while swallowing issue seems to have resolved since he got all the packing out, so even though he's still running a big time caloric deficit, I'm hoping to talk to the nurse soon and see if she can call Dr. Kennedy and get an order to cancel to the feeding tube! I'm going to wake him up in a bit to start day...walk, eat, sleep! His mouth isn't closed with wires, but he did put some very tight elastics on the same way, so it's almost like he's wired shut, but that won't be a long term thing. I think it's just until his bite is together again. Even in 10 minutes while Dr. Griffeth hung around, his bite was moving.
You cannot believe how GOOD he looks! He's been on meds for the swelling as well, but his skin is looking so good. It's amazing how fast a kid heals! The abrasions are almost completely healed, and now he just has some chipmunk cheeks and purple "eyeshadow", but he is definitely starting to look like Trent again! Even after they brought him back from OR we were so shocked at how much better he looks. Amazing how much getting those bones back in place changed him!
So...I have big plans for him for today! Guess I better wake him up and tell him about them! He'll be thrilled! ;)
Thinking of so many this morning at a special gathering in Sacramento.
We''ll be thinking of you too. Sounds like your day will be quite busy.....not necessarily FUN...but busy. So glad you got some calories down the boy!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet and appreciate your sharing. Hope Trent likes the big plans. <3
ReplyDeleteSo glad for your update, Elaine ... our mouth is a pretty vital part of us and experiences like this really underline that fact! Yes, I'm surely thinking of them in Sac today - would love to be there but .. well, I'm quite happy here too! That's one of the miracles of this work. We had our 1st gospel mtg last Sunday - this next Wed., we're beginning in a home right off of the 210 fwy. Traffic is quite a bit different than Sac! Give Trent a huge hug from me ...
ReplyDeleteThinking of you today :)

ReplyDeleteeat sleep walk...eat sleep walk...eat sleep walk. That will be your mantra for the day, Trent. And we'll be here in AZ cheering you on! Anything to keep the feeding tube out. Love you much! I know you already know that...but it is worth repeating over and over!
ReplyDeleteSending you all the courage I can muster for the day!
Love, Sandy
Kendra is standing here waiting to go to her last day of band camp. She said to tell you to: eat sleep walk...eat sleep walk! :-)
I am so happy to hear how he is looking so good! Youth is so fortunate! He is such a handsome lad and we know that will shine through. His friend Nick has had some hard days since his friend, Trent, was injured. Shed tears, etc. Hope you are all getting rest!

ReplyDeleteWonderful to hear how well things are going for Trent! Thanks so much for keeping us posted.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear of this accident. Our daughter, Mika was the peer teacher for Trent's AP World history class and our son, Jory is in the same grade. I saw some FB posts through our friends the Osborns. Just wanted to let you know that we are thinking of your superhero, and hope he has a speedy and full recovery!
ReplyDeleteHave been keeping up with your facebook updates! So sorry about the accident but so thankful healing is going well. Know there will be some "step backward" days but also know a super hero will fight hard and heal fast! Our love and care the Kleppens
