Dr. appts

Today we had the first of many doctor appts! We got the 4 referrals that we need, and hopefully tomorrow we can start getting appointments made. The orthodontist, oral-facial surgeon, and Dr. Griffeth will be in touch and will decide how to proceed from here in regards to getting his bite correct again. He may need braces again, even though his teeth "look" ok, because his bite is quite "off".

He is eating a lot better now, but the reality check at the dr.'s office today was that he's still down 15 pounds from pre-accident. We are giving him high calorie foods so I know he'll get it back once he's able to start working out, etc.

His face is still numb. We notice a lot of his expressions  aren't quite symmetrical yet (kind of like when you get back from the dentist and are numb on one side...your face doesn't quite move right), but  that will come back. I think this remaining swelling will take a long time to completely go away. Most people would not notice his swelling, but we know that chubby right cheek isn't really "him"! He's competely off the pain meds now, so he's still improving by leaps and bounds!

  1. I am happy to hear the news....it sounds like a long road ahead! Kelly, my nephew, had broken his jaw and had to be wired shut for months...he lost weight but soon came back...he also lost all his front teeth and is just now getting done with implants. These accidents are no fun! I'm glad Trent has his teeth! Glad the pain meds are gone! Think of you all often and glad for every update!

  2. So glad you guys are home! I am also relieved that Trent is making such great progress. So much worrying, I just can't even imagine what it was like for any of you. I know you say there is more work to be done, but from the pictures...he looks pretty awesome! After he is better, maybe you could blog about other things going on because you are a really good writer! :) I can hear you through your writing and I just love that! I will be talking to you real soon! Take care my beautiful friend! Melanie O'Donnell

  3. Good news all around, considering! It put a lump in my throat to see you 5 walk in and sit up front on Sunday evening, and then to hear a little of what Trent had shared that morning...precious. Giving him a little hug after gospel mtg did show me just how 'skinny' he'd gotten, but that won't last long now that he's able to eat again ;-D Very glad he's doing so well, and only 2 weeks post-accident... just amazing!

  5. Support from family and friends is so wonderful. It just warms our heart to hear his progress. I still want to reach out and give him a hug. So he gets cyberspace hugs from Grandpa and Grandma. We are still cheering you on Trent and the rest of you as you continue to travel this road to wellness together. Love from Grandpa and Grandma J.

  6. Oh...I just want to hit the like button here! Glad to hear he is improving like he is. This Dr. Griffeth seems like he has taken Trent on as more than a dr challenge but a friend!! That is so cool that he is so good to see you folks through this even though you are many miles away. It is so encouraging your positive outlook on this from the beginning. I always look forward to the updates you give. I hope improvement continues and life can become normal soon! Love and thoughts to you. Leona

  7. Elaine, I am glad things are going so well for Trent. We are in Portland with my sister and hoping that we can get Shelley to put on some weight too. She is so very thin and needs to gain weight before they put her on the medicine to shrink her benign tumor on her kidney. She drank the Premier Protein drink from Costco with 30 grams of protein. We were glad for that! It is a start.

  9. Good Morning, Petersons, et al! Lovely to see your recap of the arrival home! We're so thankful all has gone so well ...when you left for your vacation, you never dreamed what lay around the next corner! But...in the midst of all of that trauma and pain, you've proved the Love of God and His children more deeply than ever. Just know we continue to think of you daily ..and love you all!

  10. Dear Peterson Family ~ I'm so happy that all is going in the right direction for Trent. I just finished reading some of your updates I'd missed and seeing the pictures and my eyes blurred not just a little. We do have the very best in this wonderful family of God and I don't ever want to forget it in the darker days. It's a double blessing when our natural family is also our spiritual family! Love you all and hope there aren't too many 'down' days. Love, Ellen Larson
